These hand-carved wood sculptures made from salvaged beams of Deodar Cedar (Cedrus deodara), were inspired by the patterns and holes created by bugs that feast on the succulent cambial layers just below the surface of the bark of certain trees.
These mystical paths of perfection imply a journey to metamorphosis… tunnels and pathways suggesting entry and exit points irresistible to the touch.
As you feel the smooth surface of the sculpture, imagine being this worm and flirt with the idea of being a creature able to carve its way through the natural beauty of the woodgrain – as the sculptor does – the nexus of a life once lived.
The naming of each sculpture is a paean to the relationship we have had with deodar cedar throughout human history.
